Digital Literacy, STEM Classes added to Middle School Course Offerings

Kingsley Middle School is excited to announce two new elective course offerings that will help 6th-8th graders learn critical thinking skills and how to thrive in an increasingly digital world.

Course Title: Digital Literacy

Grade Level: 6th

Prerequisites: N/A

This semester course is designed to introduce students to the foundational skills needed to navigate and succeed in a digital world. Students will develop proficiency in digital citizenship, online safety, and responsible technology use while building confidence with common digital tools and platforms.

Students will engage in hands-on learning experiences that include keyboarding, document creation, presentation design, and basic research skills. The course will also introduce elements of coding, problem-solving, and computational thinking, helping students understand how technology works and how it can be used to create and innovate.

The goal of this course is to prepare students to use technology effectively for learning, communication, and collaboration across all subject areas.

Course Title: Innovation Lab (STEM)

Grade Level: 7th–8th

Prerequisites: N/A

This semester course is designed to engage students in hands-on, project-based learning experiences that integrate science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). Students will explore real-world problems and apply critical thinking, creativity, and collaboration to design and test innovative solutions.

Students will participate in a variety of activities that may include engineering challenges, robotics, coding, and design thinking projects. Emphasis is placed on the process of problem-solving, including planning, prototyping, testing, and refining ideas.

The goal of this course is to develop students’ ability to think critically, work collaboratively, and apply STEM concepts in meaningful and practical ways while fostering curiosity and innovation.
