Kingsley Athletics Welcomes Three New Coaches

Kingsley Area Schools is proud to introduce the community to three new coaches for 2026-2027.

Larry Brown - Varsity Girls Basketball Head Coach

I am honored and excited to join the Kingsley Girls Basketball family. Kingsley has a proud

tradition and I'm grateful for the opportunity to build on that foundation while helping write the next chapter of Stags Basketball.

I grew up in the small Upper Peninsula community of Brimley, where high school athletics were the heartbeat of our town. I played four years of basketball as a shooting guard and later had the opportunity to play for two years while serving in the United States Marine Corps. Those experiences taught me the importance of discipline, accountability, teamwork, and leading by example.

For the past 23 years, I've worked as a special education teacher with the Mecosta-Osceola

Intermediate School District, and for more than 20 years I've coached basketball at the middle school, freshman, junior varsity, and varsity levels. My coaching journey has taken me through Farwell, Evart, Manton, and Cadillac, strengthening my belief that great programs are built on relationships, trust, and a commitment to doing the little things well.

I'm excited to get in the gym with our players and begin building our identity together. My goal is to establish a culture centered on teamwork, relentless effort, accountability, and competing for one another.

I hope that every time someone watches a team wearing a Kingsley jersey, they'll know exactly what it represents—passion, toughness, selflessness, and pride.

I've always believed coaching is about people first and basketball second. Watching young

women grow in confidence, overcome challenges, and become leaders is what makes coaching so rewarding.

Family has always been the foundation of my life, and as the proud father of three

daughters, I understand the trust families place in a coach. Our players can expect someone who is fully committed, supportive, and invested in helping them succeed both on and off the court.

My personal motto is: Championships are earned through the work no one sees.

I believe success is built through the daily habits, preparation, and commitment that happen when no one is watching. When we consistently do the little things the right way, success becomes the result.

I'm excited to begin this journey with our players, families, alumni, and the entire Kingsley

community. Together, we'll honor the tradition that has been built here while continuing to raise the STAG Standard. Go Stags!

Marie Godoshian - JV Girls Basketball Coach

Marie is no stranger to Stag Athletics. The Kingsley native recently moved back to the area and is excited to give back to the community. During her time as a student at KHS, she was a 4-year varsity athlete on the basketball team, wearing number 24. She continued her athletic career at Spring Arbor University.

"I'm looking forward to playing some good basketball. I love learning about [my athletes'] dreams and helping them accomplish their goals!" said Coach Godoshian.

She says her personal motto is "confidence is key."

Tyler Croton - Varsity Wrestling Coach

Tyler was born in Traverse City and graduated from Kingsley in 2011. During his time in school, he played football, wrestled, did powerlifting, and ran track. He now lives in town with his wife and five sons.

"You will often see our family at football, soccer, baseball, track, and band when not wrestling. With any free time I enjoy fishing and hiking," he said.

Tyler has been coaching at different levels since 2017 and has been a volunteer Kingsley wrestling coach since 2021. He has been the head coach of the Kingsley Wrestling Club since 2023.

"I enjoy working with varsity athletes and providing them with the tools to accomplish their goals for their athletic career and the mental toughness to handle everything after as well," said Tyler.

"I look forward to working with the athletes and our coaching staff to ensure that we are developing well rounded leaders in the classroom and great people in our community."
