On Wednesday October 21, local veterans, first responders, active duty personnel, and members of the Kingsley community celebrated KHS' NJROTC cadets at their third annual Pinning Ceremony.

The Military Pinning Ceremony symbolizes achievement, growth, and the transition to greater responsibility. It honors the hard work, dedication, and leadership each service member or cadet has demonstrated to earn their new rank.

Eighth grade and high school cadets were pinned by local veterans, service members, and first responders.

“The act of pinning the insignia is a time-honored tradition that represents trust, commitment, and the continuation of military excellence,” said instructor Gunnery Sergeant Mathew Barr.

“When veterans or mentors perform the pinning, it highlights the passing of knowledge and values from one generation of service members to the next.”

The ceremony honored program achievements, including...

  • Being named a Distinguished Unit, meaning KHS is in the top 5% of units in its region

  • Achieved first place in its region on the NJROTC Academic Exam and placed 20th nationally among 2,859 teams.

  • Earning third place in the JROTC State Championship Raider tournament, securing a spot in the National Championship. The raider competition is like a "tough mudder on steroids"

  • Additionally, several Stags were chosen for leadership opportunities at the Junior Cadet Leadership Challenge and the Naval Leadership Academy.

  • Cadet Commander Addison Unterbrink was named the VFW Cadet of the Year for post 5065 and will now compete in the state and national competition.

Thank you to all of the local veterans, community members, and Stag families for their support at the ceremony.
